Every person who visits your website and does not book is a warm lead walking out the door. The Meta pixel is what catches them.
It runs silently in the background of your website. It identifies visitors. It remembers them. And when you are ready to run Facebook or Instagram ads, it lets you put those ads in front of the people who already showed interest in your property — instead of strangers who have never heard of you.
The Meta pixel is a small piece of code installed on your website. It is provided by Meta (the company that owns Facebook and Instagram) and is free to use. When someone visits your site, the pixel fires and records that visit — anonymously, in aggregate — and associates it with a Meta user profile if one exists.
You do not see individual visitor identities. What you see is an audience: people who visited your site, how many there are, and behavioral signals about what they did while they were there.
The pixel powers two things that make Meta ads work significantly better for STR hosts.
Retargeting: You can show ads specifically to people who already visited your website. These people are warmer than a cold audience. They know your property exists. A well-timed retargeting ad — showing up in their feed while they are browsing — is a reminder at the moment they might be ready to book.
Conversion tracking: If someone clicks your ad and then books, the pixel can connect the booking to the ad that drove it. Without this, you cannot measure whether your ads are working. With it, you know exactly what your ad spend is returning.
The pixel builds an audience over time. Every visitor to your site adds to the pool. The larger the pool, the more effective your retargeting campaigns can be — Meta requires a minimum audience size before retargeting ads will run effectively.
A host who installs the pixel today and waits six months before running ads has six months of audience data to work with. A host who decides to run ads in six months and installs the pixel then is starting from zero. Those six months of visitors are gone. You cannot go back and capture them retroactively.
Once your pixel has enough data, Meta can build a lookalike audience: people who share characteristics with your existing website visitors. This is how you reach new travelers who have never heard of your property but behave like people who already showed interest in it.
Lookalike audiences are one of the most powerful targeting tools available to small advertisers — and they are only available once you have a pixel with sufficient data behind it.
Most STR hosts who decide to start running Facebook ads discover at that moment that they do not have a pixel installed, do not have an audience built, and cannot run retargeting campaigns yet. They are three to six months behind where they could have been if they had installed it at launch.
The pixel is infrastructure. It works whether or not you are actively running ads. Install it now and let it build. When you are ready to advertise, the audience will be there.
Pixel installation, audience building, campaign setup, and ongoing management — done for you. We connect the pixel to your Facebook page, your website, and your ad campaigns from day one.
